I recently attended the launch of the masterpiece ‘S.S. Maria Theresa’. The Godmother of the ship is Princess Anita von Hohenberg, a direct descendant of Maria Theresa and the Great-granddaughter of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Maria Theresa was the inspiration for the decoration of the ship, which is designed to feel like a Baroque castle and includes the painting of the ship’s namesake shown in the photo above. The Princess gave a wonderful speech and the Dom Perignon used to christen the ship broke on the 2nd attempt. I hope this is lucky!
Bea preceded her and spoke about the extraordinary service you receive on Uniworld ships which is well matched by Red Carnation Hotels. As an aside for those who are not aware, Red Carnation was recently named 2nd Best Company to work for in the UK in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2015.
The ship was absolutely beautiful and the advanced technology worked fantastically. With special thanks, besides Bea, to Toni Tollman, Brian Brennan and architect Philippe Bonino. Uniworld which is famous for its cuisine, to the best of my knowledge is the only river cruise company doing everything 100% fresh on board. The food was amazing and as on all cruises some of our family’s recipes are incorporated in the menus.
We had a great 24 hours and we wish all on board bon voyage and a great future for the ‘S.S. Maria Theresa’, a wonderful addition to the Uniworld fleet.
